No Gym? No Problem!

A lot of people think that they cannot get in shape without the gym. This is completely wrong! There are many ways to stay in shape without even stepping foot into a gym.

Run!- You can run anywhere. Go outside, to a trail or you can even jog to the store! Running is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Squat- You can squat in all different ways with no equipment at all! Work your legs and booty by doing some sets of squats before getting in the shower.

Abs- A couple posts ago, I added some great at home ab exercises! Try these when you wake up and when you go to bed!

Summer Pasta Salad Recipe

With summer quickly approaching, I thought I would share with everyone one of my favorite summer dishes….pasta salad! It’s quick and easy to make and is very yummy!

Ingredients:

Tri-Colored Rotini Pasta

Broccoli

Cheese (any kind)

Black olives

Tomatoes

Recipe:

Boil pasta in large pot and drain.

Put pasta into a large bowl.

Add veggies and cheese of your choice

Add Italian dressing to taste.

Stir and Enjoy!

I know that as college students, especially during the last weeks of the semester, we can be very busy. It is hard to get meals in let alone snacks. Here are some ideas for some grab and go snacks to keep you full and focused for finals week!

  1. Apples

  3. Hummus- try it with crackers or carrots!
  4. Watermelon
  5. Cantaloupe
  6. Popcorn

Summer Salad

Sometimes when the weather gets warmer something fresh can taste so good! Try this salad recipe for some fresh fruits and vegetables to keep you full and focused for the rest of your day! Try with balsamic or fruity dressing! 

Mix together:

Spinach 

Cut up strawberries

Sunflower seeds

Feta cheese 

Add chicken for some extra protein!

Easy Asparagus — April 25, 2016

Easy Asparagus

One food that I never thought that I would ever like is asparagus. My step mom started to make it for me and now I can’t stop eating it! Asparagus is a great source of fiber and vitamins A, C, E, and K! Try this recipe to spice up a grilled chicken dinner!

Ingredients:

Asparagus

Salt

Pepper

Olive Oil

Butter

Recipe:

Pre-Heat oven to 350. Cut Asparagus and put on a baking sheet. Coat with oil and sprinkle salt and pepper. Put in oven for 10-15 mins until desired tenderness. Add melted butter to taste and there you have it!

Do these excersises at home….no gym necessary!

Squats 5 reps of 10

Lunges 3 reps of 10

Squat jumps 5 reps of 10

Calf raises 5 reps of 10 

Run outside for 10 minutes 

If you want to add some weight to these, you can use daily household items! Try waterbottles and milk jugs to really get your legs burning!

The weather has finally broken here in Western New York which means summer is just around the corner!

Get outside! Weather its walking to classes, work or parking farther away, just taking a couple extra steps a day really make a difference!

Working out outside is great because there are all different types of terrain you can run through and a bit a fresh air never hurt anyone!

So go outside! Take a walk! It’s the best time of the year!

Removing Meat From My Diet

Taking meat out of my diet was soooo hard. A lot of people are telling me that it is stupid and I don’t know what I am doing but I really think this is a good decision for me. I am already seeing changes in my body and I FEEL healthier and thats all that matters!

I wanted to share with you guys some of the things I’m eating instead of meat to keep me going throughout the day!

  1. Protein bars- watch the sugar! some protein bars are loaded
  2. Protein shakes- I am currently drinking a half a scoop with 10 ounces of almond milk after each workout.
  3. Fresh fruits and vegetables
  4. Smoothies- Add anything you want! I’m adding orange juice, frozen spinach and mixed fruit! You can also add yogurt!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you all a little reminder that living healthy is NOT easy! You won’t see results instantly! Keep working at it! Your body will thank you for it!

Fighting urges to eat an entire pizza or carton of ice cream are so hard….especially when you are in college. What makes it even harder is if your friends aren’t doing the same things that you are. Having to sit in a room smelling junk food that your friends are eating and knowing you could have some is the worst! Here are some tips to help you fight urges.

  1. Always carry a bottle of water with you
  2. You can get a salad or something healthy at almost any fast food restaurant
  3. Keep your fridge, freezer, and cupboards stocked with healthy snacks
  4. Go to the gym if your friends want to go out and get bad food
  5. Just say no!!!
